A collection of smaller works that encapsulate the essence of her larger-than-life vision. While the scale may be smaller, the impact is no less profound, offering viewers a glimpse into Jude’s creative process and the boundless beauty of the natural world.
These paintings were done during Covid 2020 I was expecting to have my brother visit from Thailand, we hadn’t met up in person for almost 10years. I remembered my trip to Thailand and Cambodia back in the 1980’s before my brother moved there, he loved the culture and vitality of Bangkok, but often travelled to the islands and inland nature reserves, he would send photographs of where he had been.
These paintings were based on memories and imagined, some have hints of Dartmoor from when we often met at my mothers house. We would walk the Tors on Dartmoor, and along the Plym valley, the hazy scent of the woodland valley on the banks of the River Plym.
These paintings were the first smaller works I had created, I think because my brother seemed so far away they imbue a dream like quality, a haziness almost transience, I suppose I only ever got to speak to my brother via Skype or zoom, I was never able to touch or hug him.
My brother sadly passed away before I had chance to embrace him again.
